Devon Devon - bordered by Somerset, Dorset and Cornwall – is England's third largest county with nearly 7,000 sq. km of land. Devon contains two National Parks - Exmoor and Dartmoor. Devon is fortunate to have two coasts - one to the North and one to the South. It’s coastal towns and picturesque villages with their thatched cottages and charming inns contrast with bustling City centres of Plymouth and Exeter. The landscapes are beautiful, full of folklore and ancient history. |

Dartmoor National Park Dartmoor, the heart and soul of Devon, was designated as a National Park in 1951. It is a beautiful moorland landscape with deep wooded river valleys and windswept Tors and covers over 368 square miles (950 sq. km.). It has over 600 miles (966km) of public rights of way and about 10 million visits are made each year! Dartmoor is a rich habitat for wildlife with cattle, sheep, deer, ponies and rabbits roaming the moors. Many archaeological remains can also be found. Located on Dartmoor National Park, The Old School Guest House is ideally placed to explore the moors and villages. Step from our gate and start exploring! By foot, bike or car there is plenty to see and do. The ancient Stannery town of Tavistock is only minutes away with its pannier market, abbey ruins, artisan shops and restaurants. The historic maritime City of Plymouth is only 15 minutes away. We are also conveniently located for the business traveller who is visiting Roborough, Belliver, Estover Industrial Estates, Derriford Science Park, or Derriford Hospital. |

| Steven Spielberg has recently completed filming his new film War Horse – coming to a cinema near you in 2012. Many of the locations used in his film are found on Dartmoor. (www.warhorsemovie.com) The National Trust There are a multitude of Trust properties and gardens to visit. To name a few: Buckland Abbey, Cotehele, Antony (Alice in Wonderland was filmed here), Lydford Gorge, Trelissick Garden, Lanhydrock, Saltram, Castle Drogo and many others.
